Happy Friday, friends! Did this week fly by for anyone else, or was it just me? I was so tired on Monday after a busy weekend in Catalina that I was worried the week would drag on, but I can’t believe Friday is already here. I had some really exciting developments on the work front come up that I can not wait to tell you all about soon (secret project!!! sorry to be that person haha), but overall, it was a great and productive week.
When I sat down to write this week’s report, it was kind of hard! I’ve realized over the past month or so of doing this that the breakdown of topics feels a little limiting. I don’t always have something new I’m reading (since it often takes me more than a week to get through a book, especially when I’m keeping busy with work), and I’m not always playing games (lol), so I think moving forward I’m going to be a little bit more loose with these two. For “Reading,” I’m going to make it a “Reading (or Listening)” category where I can also talk about interesting podcasts I’ve listened to, and for “Playing,” I’m going to look at this more about being playful and having fun with life and talking about ways in which I’m doing that!
So, without further ado, here’s the report!
Reading (or Listening):
Since I’m still making my way through Elin Hilderbrand’s “The Perfect Couple,” this week, I want to talk about two podcasts I recently listened to that I loved!
The first is Meghan Guffey‘s interview on How’d She Do That with Emily Landers. I’ve been a fan of Meghan, Emily, and the podcast for years, so I was particularly thrilled when I saw this episode last week and saved it until I could listen and give it my full attention. WOW! This episode was jam-packed with nuggets of wisdom! Meghan has had an impressive and interesting career path working for companies such as Glamour, AD, Amazon, and Something Navy, and most recently launched her own e-commerce site, Bea Colette, which sells the most beautiful European children’s clothing brands. I loved hearing her perspective on work ethic, being a working mom, and the challenges that come with that, launching a business, and so much more! You can listen to the episode here.
The second podcast was with Meg Mason on So Can I. I’d never listened to this podcast before, but the episode came highly recommended by an Instagram friend of mine, Brooke, so I decided to listen! This was one of those podcast episodes where I wanted to write down pretty much everything that was said. Meg is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to SEO for blogs and she shared so many helpful tips and insights that I didn’t know about. It let me really inspired to do a deep dive into my own SEO and really take that more seriously. You can listen to the episode here.
Eating:
Have you guys tried Goldfish Crisps, yet!? Omg!! I grabbed them when we made a pitstop at the grocery store on Catalina for some things we forgot and they are so yummy! They’re light and airy and such a great snack. I will say in terms of the cheddar flavor, I still like traditional goldfish more, but the texture was fabulous. I really want to try the Salt & Vinegar and Sour Cream & Onion flavors because I have a good feeling I am going to be obsessed with those. On that note… maybe I shouldn’t try them… ha!
Playing:
I’ve already mentioned our trip to Catalina quite a bit, but it was just SO fun and a great break from the real world for a few days. As I mentioned last week, we were staying on a friend’s boat with him, his wife, and two other guy friends of ours. We didn’t know it going into it, but my friend Holly and I were essentially crashing boys’ weekend, and while it was certainly eye-opening and jarring at times, we had the best time. We wore matching swimsuits (these are the best one-pieces!), had dance parties, and just had FUN! We all greed we need to make it an annual trip going forward!
Obsessing:
You may have seen on my Instagram, but Weezie sent me a fresh set of their amazing bath towels and I couldn’t love them more. I went with their new applique monogram option and I just love how bold and crisp the monogram looks on the bright white towels. I’ve purchased from Weezie many times over the years and they really don’t disappoint. Our old towels, which were also from Weezie, had seen better days and we were definitely due for a refresh, but after being used nonstop for nearly two years that wouldn’t be surprising for even the most expensive towel brands. I’m also a really big fan of Weezie’s robes. I got my most recent one about two years ago too and I think that’s what I’m going to update next! Should I get applique to match the towels?
Recommending:
In the digital age, it can be so difficult to prioritize making time for ourselves and getting away from our computers, TV’s, and phones. Yesterday, I had a really busy day of client meetings, so I woke up a little earlier than normal to go on a walk and listen to a podcast to take some time for myself before the crazy day and I am so glad I did! This is just a little reminder that you will never regret doing this even if it’s just for a half hour or so!
Treating:
One of my guilty pleasures and favorite desserts are Balboa Bars from Dad’s Donuts on Balboa Island! For those of you who aren’t local, a Balboa Bar is an ice cream bar dipped in chocolate and covered with toppings of your choosing! There are a couple places that offer them, but Dad’s is the local favorite and the best one. Earlier this week, we grabbed dinner with some friends at Royal Hen, which is across the street from Dad’s and walked over to get Balboa Bars afterwards and it was the best! Dad’s is also right next door to the chapel where we got married, which makes it even more special to me now!
How was your week? As always, you can reach out to me on Instagram or leave a comment below if you ever have any thoughts or questions. I always love hearing from you all!
Hope you have a great weekend!
