When it comes to setting New Year’s resolutions, I like to focus more on general intentions/overall themes for the year. For some reason, I’ve found this to be a little bit less overwhelming and more manageable for me to focus on. I also think with so many unknowns in an entire year, having intentions that are broader allows for some wiggle room. I wanted to share my intentions for 2021 with all of you in case any of you need some inspiration or motivation. Plus, sharing them with all of you will help keep me accountable! Here we go…
Practicing Discipline and Routine
I’ve always been the kind of person who thrives on routine. I had great routines in school and even had a pretty good routine my first 9 months or so in the real world. But, when things got turned upside down in 2020, my routine, like everyone else’s, completely went out the window and I honestly feel like I’ve been floundering ever since. In October I signed up for a gym that’s not too far from my house and it played a crucial role in me keeping my sanity towards the end of the year. I started doing BBG Beginner on the Sweat App and loved having workouts planned for me each day. Unfortunately though, when I finished that program, my motivation started to dwindle… just in time for the holidays. I started BBG 1.0 (also on the Sweat App) this week and even though it’s hard right now, I already feel a lot better. I also bought a daily meditation book called The Daily Stoic that I’ve been reading every morning. I’ve never been big on meditation, but I love how this is short (takes less than 5 min) and makes me feel centered as I get ready for the day. So far I’ve been reading this after the gym and before I get in the shower so I have time to reflect. Overall, I want to focus on creating a better morning routine that makes me feel happy and ready to tackle a new day. I’ll share updates on it as they come!
Being More Productive With My Time
Being productive with my time has been a struggle for me since starting college. I was so good at it in high school! Back in the day I juggled school work, college applications, a job, and posting on this blog 5 days a week without a care in the world. Honestly, I don’t know how I did it, but I did. When I got to college, it was such a new world that all of a sudden I had no idea how to do it all anymore. Ever since, I’ve felt like I’ve made excuses for not doing things by saying that “I don’t have time.” The reality is that I totally have the time, it’s just that I’ve been using my time poorly and not prioritizing things correctly. I really want to work on dedicating myself to this blog more in hopes that it will help me focus on productivity and prioritization.
If there’s one thing that the past year taught us, it’s that life is full of unexpected changes and there’s only so much planning we can do. I obviously have no idea what the next year has in store for me, but what I do know is that I want to handle each hurdle with grace (towards myself and others). I’ve purposefully chosen these intentions because they are things that are completely in my control, so I don’t have to worry about outside influences getting in the way. Just writing all this out and putting it into the world is already making me feel so powerful and motivated! I’m so curious, have you made any goals/intentions for 2021?
Here’s to an amazing year ahead!
Xx,
Sammy
