I would venture to say that it takes a lot for me to not be happy. Sure, I get annoyed, stressed, or frustrated here and there (who doesn’t?), but in general I would say I’m a very happy person. For as long as I can remember, I’ve consciously made the effort to make the best out of any situation and to always look on the bright side. This is probably something my mom helped instill in me.
I recognize that right now is a stressful and anxious time for many people—even I’ve felt some anxiety from it all—so, I wanted to share some of the things that have been making me smile while I’ve been spending time at home. Hopefully they help make you smile too.
- My boyfriend, Shane, showed me this video last week and it may be one of the funniest things I’ve seen. I’ve rewatched it 20+ times since and still laugh!
- I’ve been spending a lot more time in the kitchen in the last month and it’s been so fun! Some recipes I’ve tried and recommend: this chicken, these potatoes, these cookies, and these brownies.
- Getting to spend more time with my family.
- Tik-Tok… I’ve become obsessed guys and I’m not proud of it.
- Treating ourselves to the occasional take-out. We did Jon and Vinny’s a couple weeks ago and it was soooo good!
- Spending time in my room. I love my room so much and I feel like I never get to sped any time in it, but I’ve been spending so much more time in there and it’s wonderful. I’ve also been keeping it more organized as a result.
- Lighting a candle during the day. I love this one and have been lighting it almost daily. I also just bought this wick trimmer and it’s been such a game changer.
- I don’t drink a ton of coffee (I’m usually more of a matcha girl), but I tried making this iced latte and oh my gosh is it delicious!
- I’ve been seeing tons of posts about Nancy Meyers inspired decor and I’m living for it. It’s really inspiring me to add a little bit more decor to my room as well. I love this post and this one.
- This post on Cupcakes & Cashmere about being kinder to one another was so well written and really hit the mark.
- The Morning Toast… This is by far my favorite podcast. Jackie and Claudia are so funny and relatable. Listening to (or watching) them for an hour in the morning is such a great escape.
- Cute loungewear sets… I’ve been dyeing (pun intended) for one of these tie dye sets. Just need them to come back in stock!
- Walks outdoors (socially distanced, of course). Since we’ve been inside all day even a 15 min walk around the neighborhood is refreshing.
- Playing games! I’m a sucker for board and card games and now’s been the perfect time to play them. So far my family’s played Monopoly twice and they have been competitive. The first game I lost terribly to Shane, but the second time I dominated! I really want to get my hands on this card game!
- Overall taking things more slowly. It’s been so refreshing to have nowhere to be and to not be in any kind of hurry. I feel like we’ve all been able to step back and really enjoy life and as much as possible right now.
Aw, thanks for sharing my post, Sammy!! I definitely agree with you that moving a little more slowly through life has its perks… as much as the pandemic is horrible and tragic, the pause is kind of nice?!
and we know how much I love a walk outside, too!
