Happy Wedding Wednesday, everyone! I’m having so much fun recapping the wedding this way, and I hope you’re enjoying it too! This week, I wanted to go into some of the details and behind the scenes of the morning preparation for the wedding with my mom and bridesmaids!
The day started bright and early… I woke up at around 6:30 (although I really didn’t sleep much the night before) to shower and get myself prepped before everyone started showing up at 7:45. I was still working on writing my card to Shane that went with his wedding gift, so I used some of that time to work on that as well.
One of the things everyone said to me over and over again was to make sure that I ate throughout the day. As someone who loves food and rarely misses a meal (lol), I didn’t really understand this until the day came. I think because of the excitement and adrenaline, my appetite just disappeared! But, I did make sure we ordered my favorite McDonald’s breakfast for us all to enjoy before things got too crazy
I think my love for McDonalds is one of the things people are most surprised to learn about me actually… It’s one of my favorite foods!
I have to say the morning was surprisingly very calm and relaxing. We played fun music, and all around there was just great energy. I think part of that is because I really tried to limit how many people were in the room that morning to protect the energy around me. By having only 4 bridesmaids, it made it a really comfortable size. My mom was with us pretty much the whole time and my MIL came in for her makeup which was super fun!
Before I got into my dress, Shane’s best man visited the bridal suite to help us exchange wedding gifts since we didn’t do a first look. Josh brought me my gift and then took Shane’s gift with him, which worked out perfectly.
Since Shane and I weren’t doing personal vows, I ordered these cards for us to write in and exchange with our gifts, but I changed the ribbon to something that felt a little bit more me and matched the rest of the wedding vibe.
I gave my bridesmaids and maid of honor their official bridmesmaids’ gifts at my Bridesmaids Luncheon the day before, but as our “getting ready” outfit I got us all matching scalloped robes from Lake Pajamas. These were the PERFECT choice and all the girls loved them. If you don’t own any Lake products or have never felt them, their Pima cotton is truly the softest and their robes are no exception! I actually have worn this robe almost daily since the wedding. Sometimes I wear it while I’m getting ready for the day or I’ll put it on over my PJ’s if I’m lounging around the house. I can’t get enough of it!
My wedding planner and our hair and makeup team helped us come up with the block schedule for all the styling services, which was super helpful. We had 7 girls getting makeup done and 6 getting hair (my MIL had her hair done with her usual hair girl) and we had 2 makeup artist and 2 hair stylists. We started at around 8 and ended around 12 and then we had a quick lunch and it was time for everyone to get dressed!
The minute I got into my dress was when the madness began to ensue. I swear from there it was just go go go until the night was over and it was all a blur!
While us girls were having our fun, the boys were in another area of the hotel getting ready themselves. They started out with breakfast at a diner that Shane and I love before it was time for them to get ready. Obviously, I wasn’t there so I don’t have too much to comment on, but Shane said it was pretty low key and relaxed!
While he and his buddies were all getting ready, he gave them their groomsmen gifts! Since his last name is Fox, we thought these flasks, which my mom actually found, were the perfect whimsical touch and had them personalized with the guys’ initials on the back. Shane got one for himself too that he put our wedding date on!
From there, it was time for us to head to the ceremony! Stay tuned for next week where I’ll talk all about that.
