First off, I want to clarify that I am aware there are still 2 days left in July and no, I’m not ending it today! I have something more exciting that I’m looking forward to sharing on Wednesday (hint, hint: wedding content incoming!!), so I thought I’d just share this a couple of days early.
If you haven’t been paying attention here or on my Instagram, one of my friends and I decided at the end of June that we were going to do a month of no shopping in July. For me, this was mostly an effort to save some money after a few expensive months surrounding our wedding.
Here are the rules of no-shopping July:
- No buying anything unnecessary (clothes, beauty products, accessories, etc).
- We are allowed to buy gifts for friends/family for birthdays, bridal showers, graduations, etc. we can’t punish them too!!!!
- If we run out of a beauty product we are using and love, we are allowed to restock with the exact same item. We can’t try something new as a replacement (unless it’s less expensive since the whole point is saving money).
Here are some of my thoughts coming out of no-shopping July:
I Own a Lot of Clothes…
BUT, I still have holes in my wardrobe! As someone who documents their outfits on the internet, no shopping for the entire month proved challenging. I talked about that a little bit more in this blog post a couple of weeks ago. It was hard for me to get excited about getting dressed because I felt kind of uninspired by my wardrobe, but it forced me to be a little creative, which was fun! It helped me realize, though, that I do have some holes in my wardrobe that I need to fill, so now I can focus more on those than just shopping for whatever I see!
I Am Surrounded By Enablers!
I would feel dishonest if I didn’t tell you all that while I followed the rules and didn’t shop for anything, that doesn’t mean I didn’t get anything new… Shane bought me a new pair of pilates socks at an event they were being sold at because I’d been dying for a pair and they always sell out, and last week he ordered me this dress! I think that was his way of rewarding me for not shopping? The irony! My mom also ordered me a new pair of sneakers that we had both had our eyes on because she wanted to get us matching pairs! Phew! Glad I got that off my chest!
I Think I’m Addicted to Shopping…
In my defense, as part of my job running this blog and my Instagram I am always “shopping.” Even when I’m not looking to buy things, I’m just looking to see what’s new to get inspired and share my finds with you guys. This made it really hard because there was SO much temptation!!!
That being said, I’ve accumulated quite the wishlist over the past month, so I thought that would be fun to share!
You can shop the links to my full wishlist here on my ShopMy! I always keep my wishlist “shelf” updated with things I’m eyeing if you ever want to see! Since it will stay warm and summery here for a few more months, I have my eyes on warm-weather pieces that I can wear into the transitional season.
