This past weekend, my friend Becca and I decided to venture into Beverly Hills to try a new fitness class called Speedplay! There are studios in both Downtown LA and Beverly Hills, but the Beverly Hills studio is on the rooftop with a breathtaking view of the entire city! We both love workout classes like Soulcycle and were very excited to try a new challenge. I’ve been trying to work on my fitness a lot more lately and this seemed like the perfect way to accomplish that while also exploring new things to do in LA!
The studio boasted state of the art equipment, digital lockers, and other amenities for its guests. Upon arriving, we were greeted at the front desk and taken back by the receptionist to see the facilities and equipment. I’ll admit, the staff was not exactly the friendliest to us newbies, and we felt a little bit uncomfortable, but together we made the most of it and had a good time despite how much of a challenge keeping up with the class was! (We both felt embarrassingly sore the next morning…) The class consists of five seven-minute interval circuits focusing on cardio, weight training, and core strength.
One of the most interesting features of the Speedplay class is the self-powered curved treadmill. It was the first time I’d ever been on a treadmill like this and I was not a fan at first. I kept feeling off balance and like I was going to fall flat on my face (what else is new?), but I slowly started to feel like I was getting the hang of it. It’s definitely something you need to experiment with and get used to!
We did some circuit training the the weights and Bosu balls, which helped strengthen our arms and our cores!
The view from the rooftop was so stunning though. We both couldn’t resist taking tons of photos and selfies outside!
Have you ever tried Speedplay? What are your favorite kinds of workout classes?
