The first blog I ever read was Cupcakes & Cashmere by Emily Schuman. I was in sixth grade and my mom had found the blog and shown me because she thought Emily was someone I could look up to for inspiration. She was right. From the minute I began reading Emily’s blog, I was hooked. I took everything she wrote to heart and tried my best everyday to be just like her. Emily was basically my idol. When she wrote her own manifesto back in 2013, I treated them as my words to live by as well, but I also knew one day I wanted write my own. As the years have gone by, I’ve grown up a lot and developed my own identity. Emily’s manifesto was something I found myself referring to time and time again, still with admiration, but also with a more critical eye. I started to find that some of the things Emily included were not as important to me as they were to her and that there were things that were extremely important to me that were not included on the list. It suddenly was becoming more and more clear that I needed to write a manifesto for myself to help inspire me and recenter my focus on my goals and values. To see this all written down finally is beyond satisfying and is the perfect reminder of how I want to live my life. I’m even planning on printing it out to hang in my bedroom, so that I always see it!
Let me know what you think! What would be in your manifesto?
