For those of you who didn’t see my Instagram post, last Sunday I graduated from high school. Graduation is a pretty bittersweet feeling. On one hand, I am so excited to be going onto college. I’m excited to meet new people, have new experiences, follow my passions in school, and make new memories. On the other hand, I’m sad to be leaving. I’m sad about leaving my old friends, leaving the place that’s been my second home for four years, and leaving my family. To be honest though, I’m also scared – scared of the challenges that I know I will have to face and scared of adapting to living in a new unfamiliar environment.

This past Thursday and Friday I was down at USC for a two-day long orientation program. The orientation was way more fun than I expected it to be. Even though some of the seminars were slightly less than entertaining, I learned so much about the different on campus programs and classes I want to take! I also met some of the most amazing people. Everyone I met was so friendly and I was able to find something in common with almost everyone. Finding those instant connections and being able to approach almost everyone I encountered just showed me that I had made the right choice in coming to USC.
One interesting thing one of the speakers pointed out that really resonated with me was this: In high school, you go to schools based off of geographic convenience. Even though you may have picked your school for other reasons as well, you are still limited schools in your general neighborhood. In college, you can pick any school, anywhere you want, but at the end of the day everyone picked USC because they felt a connection and that connection ties all of the students together, which makes it so much easier to bond because everyone is similar on some level. We are all drawn to the high energy and positive spirit that surrounds USC and that brings us all together.
Even though I feel bittersweet about having graduated, a greater part of me feels excitement for what is in store at USC!
